YOU ARE THAT PERSON TO ME

... And I love you always and once more after that and million times over again when we'll reach forever while still loving you in eternity. Also, always a bit more than I'm able to express. Also no matter what happens... Vaihdetaanpa tää kieli suomeksi ja sanotaan, että tulen aina rakastamaan sinua hieman enemmän jokaisen hetken päästä eikä mikään koskaan tule väliimme, sillä, sillä, это суждено...

ORIGIN OF LOVE

So far it's been over 12 hours since I started thinking of writing my essay... So far I have got the header in place and my name... However, here is an extremely good song from a good film. I have been trying to figure out if it's Hedwig's story that somehow touched me or if the song is just so good, well, I still don't know but I know that the song is good. It might have a lot to do with the fact that I like the story behind it about people being originally a four-legged and four-handed creatures who were split in half...
Check it out, the video I mean, but of course check out the story also (Aristophane's speech from Plato's Symposium).

Dead Man Ray

Again a Belgian band, or should I say project? It doesn't really matter. Maybe you'll recognize the voice of Daan, who's also playing the drums I think, I should look that up. It's kind of frustrating that I lost my copy of their album Trap since it's kind of hard to find, typically. The way the band made their albums is pretty interesting, they just record a whole lot of loose jams and arrange everything into songs afterwards. It's a shame they don't bring out anything anymore.
Anyway, since probably nobody reads this I'll just post the songs. These are from trap, in my opinion their best album.

CORPO CELESTE

I guess Air Canada did impress me by including this film in their selection on that flight I had to unfortunately make.
Corpo Celeste, directed by Alice Rohrwacher, was a very interesting film. I liked the blue contrast used in it. And while it was a film about a girl's life and her settling in into a new environment it didn't have any proper agenda or an extreme goal... In my opinion. What I'm trying to say is, that the film kind of took a part out of the protagonist's life and decided to show that to the audience. I found that quite beautiful, although it feels like a reoccurring phenomenon in European films. In addition to that, it was one of those films that end a bit abruptly and one almost feels a bit sad to see it ending.
It's a beautiful Italian/ Swiss/ French film, so do take a look.

TRANSFIGURATION by Olivier de Sagazan

I have to share this stunning, mysterious and almost scary piece of art, created by painter, sculptor and performance artist Olivier de Sagazan. I wish there would be a proper bio of him in English because French is not something I master (yet). BUT if you wish to find out more you know how this works (right here).
Besides that I don't think this eccentric performance needs any explanation. To me, it comes off as a piece that will make every person experience very individual feelings and thoughts about it.

OLD POST // HURTS + HEDI SLIMANE

Just to continue this whole Hurts theme here, let me share this wonderful pictures with you. I don't know if it's the clear dressing style or Slimane's talent that makes these look extremely good (like most of his pictures)... But maybe it doesn't even matter. I'm not a photographer so all I can do is enjoy these.

OLD POST // HURTS

Now that the SOPA thing has been settled (at least for a while) I can move on to other things. I've been struggling with music lately and every time I try to listen to something I end up shuffling all my songs and basically by the time I'm back at the residence I haven't heard any tracks, my fingers are freezing and I'm annoyed that I haven't been able to find something nice to listen to... Until today (it's really a good day).
I had totally forgotten about Hurts. Never, unfortunately, managed to see them perform live but I would say this is really a nice listen, for a certain mood (vagueness for the win). I'm just going to stop blabbering and will let you enjoy these quite beautiful videos. The first one was made with a budget of couple of dozen pounds, I think, if my memory isn't entirely failing me.

Anyhow, if you wish to know a bit more about these two Brits from Manchester, I would suggest you check out their site.

HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH

Hedwig and the Angry Inch was quite an interesting film which at first didn't feel like anything special. Although, if you've read the screenplay it obviously let one know that the actual story is quite interesting (personally, I preferred reading the screenplay before watching the actual film).
The film is basically about Hedwig (John Cameron Mitchell) touring with her band in the States and at the same time following her ex-boyfriend, who stole her songs and thus became a famous singer. Through the song the main character tells her life-story starting from her origins, East Germany. The story is pretty unusual in a good way full of witty lines and besides believable acting the film has animation parts, which pretty much complete the story (in my opinion).
Check out the trailer and yeah, this isn't a must-watch (in my opinion although all the awards might speak differently) but definitely a good way to spend time. So, if this comes off as your kind of film make sure to take a look.

BIUTIFUL

Biutiful, directed by Alejandro Gonzalés Iñárritu, has definitely been one of the best films I've seen lately. I always have these vague adjectives to describe films but this was truly amazing. For some reason I used to think this was a film concentrating on romance but I was quite wrong. Instead this is a complex piece containing multiple stories that all affect each other from such categories as family, relationships, immigrant struggles and working class. I'm not planning on writing a review here but I'm just trying to convince you to take a look at this one.
The film is quite long, two and a half hours, but it's worth it because it's one of those you don't really want to end. Javier Bardem does an excellent job, as usually, but so do the other actors. It's a Mexico/ Spain production and I guess that has a lot to do with the fact that this drama film is indeed convincing and let's one get close to the characters. Bla Bla Bla... I do recommend this to be on your watchlist.

Biutiful was nominated last year for Best Foreign Film Academy Award and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. It was nominated for BAFTA and for Palme d'Or at Cannes. Those are just some of the nominations the film received. I know awards aren't all in all but I guess some of them give an idea of what kind of feature film we're discussing here. So take a look and enjoy.

THE ORIGIN OF LOVE

When the earth was still flat,
And the clouds made of fire,
And mountains stretched up to the sky,
Sometimes higher,
Folks roamed the earth
Like big rolling kegs.
They had two sets of arms.
They had two sets of legs.
They had two faces peering
Out of one giant head
So they could watch all around them
As they talked; while they read.
And they never knew nothing of love.
It was before the origin of love.

The origin of love

And there were three sexes then,
One that looked like two men
Glued up back to back,
Called the children of the sun.
And similar in shape and girth
Were the children of the earth.
They looked like two girls
Rolled up in one.
And the children of the moon
Were like a fork shoved on a spoon.
They were part sun, part earth
Part daughter, part son.

The origin of love

Now the gods grew quite scared
Of our strength and defiance
And Thor said,
"I'm gonna kill them all
With my hammer,
Like I killed the giants."
And Zeus said, "No,
You better let me
Use my lightening, like scissors,
Like I cut the legs off the whales
And dinosaurs into lizards."
Then he grabbed up some bolts
And he let out a laugh,
Said, "I'll split them right down the middle.
Gonna cut them right up in half."
And then storm clouds gathered above
Into great balls of fire

And then fire shot down
From the sky in bolts
Like shining blades
Of a knife.
And it ripped
Right through the flesh
Of the children of the sun
And the moon
And the earth.
And some Indian god
Sewed the wound up into a hole,
Pulled it round to our belly
To remind us of the price we pay.
And Osiris and the gods of the Nile
Gathered up a big storm
To blow a hurricane,
To scatter us away,
In a flood of wind and rain,
And a sea of tidal waves,
To wash us all away,
And if we don't behave
They'll cut us down again
And we'll be hopping round on one foot
And looking through one eye.

Last time I saw you
We had just split in two.
You were looking at me.
I was looking at you.
You had a way so familiar,
But I could not recognize,

‘Cause you had blood on your face;
I had blood in my eyes.
But I could swear by your expression
That the pain down in your soul
Was the same as the one down in mine.
That's the pain,
Cuts a straight line
Down through the heart;
We called it love.
So we wrapped our arms around each other,
Trying to shove ourselves back together.
We were making love,
Making love.
It was a cold dark evening,
Such a long time ago,
When by the mighty hand of Jove,
It was the sad story
How we became
Lonely two-legged creatures,
It's the story of
The origin of love.
That's the origin of love.

***

I was just reading Hedwig and the Angry Inch, written by John Cameron Mitchell. Particularly these lyrics which somehow made my mind wonder to pleasant places. The lyrics are beautiful.
I haven't heard the song and frankly I don't want to (until Friday when I will actually have to watch the film) because simply reading them makes me feel (oddly so) good on the inside. Makes me think of love.
Enough with this blabbering.

DEADMEAT TOUR 2012

I was browsing through upcoming concerts and gigs in Toronto (which disgracingly so has no snow) and the list looks dangerously weak, I just might have to concentrate only on school... Maybe, most likely no, I always hope for that.
Anyway, I bumped into this video which looks amazing so I thought I'd share it with you. Probably a worthwhile tour. There's not much I need to say here because I'm feeling weirdly tired at the moment except for that it's presented by Rockstar Energy Drink (at least it's drinkable) and featuring Steve Aoki and Datsik. More information, surprisingly so, on their site. Check it oooout. Cheers.
