Soon

A timer and a song.
The timer (again) because, well, just because. It's nice to have it on this first page. The song because of the part starting from 2:37 gives an idea of how I'll be feeling around the time this counter reaches zero, namely out of this world. At the place where I belong, with the person I belong. Let's dance, let's have our feet on the same square meter again, let's have the world around us fade away.

You and me are BETTER TOGETHER

This is a beautiful song and a beautiful music video. And yeah, I guess over a short period of time this has managed to create nice memories. Enjoy this chillness.

WTF IS SOPA?

Here's some proof of in what kind of fucking "democratic" world we live in. I don't need to get all emotional here, although in my opinion internet is extremely important. I've always viewed it as a place where one can express themselves in a both good and bad ways, but the point is that at least you can express yourself on the internet... Bl ablabla...

Anyhow, the idea of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) is, yet again, showing multinational corporations not being satisfied with all the power and destruction they've brought so far.
As one might suspect it's a complicated bill and the following video clip does not cover all of it but at least gives you an idea of what's happening.
So, just watch the clip (I know it's a bit long but this time it is worth the full 21,12 minutes) by John "TotalBiscuit" Bain and at least give your vote against the passing of this law.

I smell your sweat on my skin/ breakfast in Vegas on cocaine and gin.

Personal checklist item and an essential bad-ass Belgian song. Nowadays the artist Praga Khan (aka Maurice Engelen) does quite impressive audio-visual performances that are quite worth checking out. He's also one of the founders of the SonicAngel label. This label lets fans 'invest' in studio time for artists to give new talent a chance of recording an album by buying it in advance. Once the artist gets a certain amount of funding the recording process can start and the fans get their album. This system has been proven to actually work and shows that the music industry can still develop and change, instead of being obsolete and in the way of the artistic side of it all.

Ever been so awesome you swallowed a soundsystem?

Okay, this guy kind of proves that not all modern day Swedes are fancy metrosexuals. In fact, he reminds me that the Swedes used to be bad-ass motherfuckers. As owner of a custom made audiosystem store he decided to pull a stunt and made the GutPod, a little pill that has a built-in signal receiver, a little amplifier and speakers. People can pick a song online and it'll be played from his stomach.
Definitely take a look at the size of the pill when he swallows it. This man... There's still epicness in the world. Coehlio approved.

9 CRIMES

Let me just post this song here. It's a very, very sad one and doesn't really fit with the current events, yet in the midst of all the bliss listening to this always makes me feel melancholic. Maybe this is a good reminder of how things can be so one should enjoy the good moments to the fullest. Yeah.
I have nothing to add to the above blabbering because this speaks enough for itself. If you want more of Damien Rice do check more of Damien Rice. Also, apologies for the poor video quality but this is exactly the version I really like.

ISABELL

Me and the Devil

This simply works.
Fine, I'll admit it. I heard this first on TB but anyhow, epic song is epic. I like how colourful the video is shot-wise (since obviously the actual colour scale used is not that wide). Still, for me the music video somehow hangs in the borderlines of life and death and I like that feeling, all the masks, costumes, sounds and so forth. Simply wonderful.
Check it out and appreciate what Gil Scott-Heron has brought.

The incredible beauty in Randomness

It started with two strangers meeting. One of Randomness's more exciting draws. They still don't know how it could ever happen, how small - or big? - the odds were that they would ever find someone like that. Somehow I think she's right and that we're two old souls who have been separated, the two keys of a very, very obvious puzzle. That is of course if puzzles had eyes that could look as deep into each other as we do. Sometimes we tell each other that it's so strong it's almost scary but somehow I think we both know it's not, scary is simply not the word for iI used to tell myself there is no meaning in life and I was fine with that. Rationality used to yield power in the abyss I like to call my mind, but now… I have no idea of what you are doing to me, but please go on. For the first time in my life I see something and I can think "perhaps this is meant to be" after all. When the odds of something happening, and that particular thing actually happening and turning out to be even better than you could ever imagine even my strain of thoughts cannot avoid coming up with a better explanation than that… Perhaps this is meant to be.

You're quite special, Isa. I'm glad you let me that close, I'm glad you let me see this unbelievable beauty (all this with the chance of sounding mellow), I love you. Я люблю тебя.

It's late again and I will go to bed now, but I'll see you soon.
Good night, love.

I'm willing and able,
So I throw my cards on your table!
I want to love you, I want to love and treat, love and treat you right,
I want to love you every day and every night,
We'll be together, yeah! with a roof right over our heads,
We'll share the shelter, yeah, oh now! of my single bed,
We'll share the same room, yeah! for Jah provide the bread.

Is this love, is this love, is this love,
Is this love that I'm feelin'
Is this love, is this love, is this love,
Is this love that I'm feelin'?
Whoa! Oh yes, I know, yes, I know, yes, I know now!
Yes, I know, yes, I know, yes, I know now!

K

16/11/2011

Hey Isa, do you know what you do to me?

English is not my native language and there's only one person I regularly speak it with. She's the first girl who ever called me her boyfriend and not 'liefje', the Dutch word for that. I don't really know her thàt long yet but already it's her name I repeat while I'm sleeping. She's on my mind when I go to bed and she's still there when I wake up. Gets me through the day.
I don't see her as often as I'd want to yet and there's this Atlantic ocean between us - momentarily - but that will get solved. We took time by its hands and somehow learned how to squeeze and stretch it to our will. Or at least we're trying.

There is something about this girl... I hear songs when I hear her voice and I see my life as if they were movie scenes when I'm with her. She brings out the unknown in me, in every possible good way. I fail to be the tough guy I like to think I am and melt when she's around. I'm glad she doesn't mind.

I will never let this one go.

Joker - Digidesign

Although I think what has become of this dubstep hype is pretty retarded, the things I heard a couple of years ago when it was still pretty unexplored territory, was pretty good. I always loved the releases of Hyperdub, a London based label lead by the intriguing Kode 9 ( 9 Samurai and Portal both are still some of my fastest personal launches into deepspace) that also has Burial - he's been blogged about enough already I think - Four Tet, Flying Lotus, King Midas Sound, Darkstar and the Spaceape, an MC that redefines the concept of mindfuck every two verses.

Anyway, I always liked this song for it's pretty cool title, the simplicity, the trippy sounds, the chillness and at the same time some mysterious tension, that cymbal pitching up every few beats and the beautiful, beautiful synth melodyn how it flows around itself... damn.
If I were an astronaut who loses grip of the edge of his ship and starts floating away into infinity, I'd put this song on infinite repeat.

K

This song is also worth listening to, I don't know a lot of songs as dreamy as this one.

Tupakointi on hengen-vaarallista

Dear Rizla. Dear Gauloises. Dear Pall Mall, dear Marlboro, Bastos, Tigra, Lucky Strike and Belgam 20

Farewell. You all have been trusted company in times of stress, relief, relaxation, excitement, and together we've seen quite some places. I remember school, gardens, train stations, bus stops, cars, tents, classrooms, any place I've ever been waiting for more than 2 minutes... I remember striking a match on one of the legs of the Eiffel tower, hiding from the wind at the Big Ben, sharing a cigarette with the hobos in Vaasa, blowing smoke rings in my hometown bar, having an excuse to go up to a girl, ask a lighter, feel only slightly caught when you use your own two minutes later because there's nothing a smile can't fix, I remember you by my side while waiting at a Finnish airport and noticing the effect of a slightly trembling hand on the smoke, I remember you as the easiest way not to stand with my hands in my pockets and actually dance at the party.
I remember sharing hangovers and cups of coffee.

But then again. I forgot how food actually tastes. I want that back. I want to fully know how a kiss tastes, even more. I want to be able to run and not have the most disgusting slime and cough attacks. I would like to be able to go to bed after a night out without waking up and having the feeling that I ate a bowl of sand before I went to bed. I remember looking through every drawer, cupboard and piece of clothing with a pocket to escape from nicotine withdrawal. It's been enough. I think it's time to see other people.
I'm sure we will meet again, perhaps during a post-orgasm cooldown I will quickly say hi, but don't count on it. I wish I could say it's not you, it's me, but perhaps it's better if we'd just say nothing anymore and leave each other.

Sincerely
K

Time

The first  words that are read by seekers of enlightenment (…) are when they look into The Life of Wen the Eternally surprised.
The first question they ask is: 'Why was he eternally surprised?' And they are told: 'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.'

from "Thief of Time" by Terry Pratchett. Hidden between extremely dry wit and absurdities this book has stunningly beautiful views on how we live in time. And death by chocolate. Simply said, it's fucking Coehlio (spread that word, we'll get more into it later).

Corinne Bailey Rae is gorgeous and so is my lover.

She is absolutely fabulous, capturing, fascinating and so gorgeous. Her beautiful voice singing those lyrics makes me smile like a fool. I don't think much needs to be said here because her performance speaks for itself.

OLD POST // LEON MARK

How about an old editorial then?
By the way, I am totally over A. Dunstan! Ha.

***
I really liked this editorial shot by Leon Mark for Metal Magazine.
Metal Magazine is a mix of fashion and art. Actually, while hanging out at their site I realized it has a quite a lot; books, fashion, films, music etc. So, do take some time to check it out since it looks quite nice! For a background information I can tell that Metal was first published in 2006, it release five issues per year and the magazine is made in Scandinavia, London, Paris, Barcelona and New York.

The photographer, Leon Mark, is a fashion, art and portrait photographer with a nice, soft style. I believe he is based in LDN at the moment and has shot for magazines like Dazed&Confused (another one worth checking out), Vice and The End, to mention a few.

After looking at his work, personally I like the brightness and softness of his pictures and the mood in general. This specific editorial... Well, the model's eyes were just gorgeous and had a nice, deep feeling in them. That is just one of the reasons I decided to put it here.

OLD POST // AZUREUS RISING

AAA! This has only gotten MORE AWESOME as the time has gone by. EPIC WIN.
Do yourself a favour and watch this in HD, full screen, on high volume!
***
Okay, so for me this short film has some major mind-blow-abilities. I don't even know where to start, although all YOU need to do is watch it!
Azureus Rising is a proof of concept for a science fiction action adventure feature film saga and next gen video game. It's pretty epic. Personally, this short reminded me of my dream. I like the main character with his round eyes that evoke sympathy (in a way) and I like how he gets out of every tough situation. This is a hard one to describe so just take a look.
One more thing I feel like mentioning: to me it looks like this short got its inspiration (at least partly) from some video games and the sword kind of reminded me of the light saber, etc. NEVERTHELESS, this looks very, very good. NSNV approves.
At the moment Azureus is in development to be a film. But what I'm ever more excited about is that it's in development to be a AAA video game! That's going to be something worth purchasing.

THE ART OF FLIGHT & STANDING SIDEWAYS

I LOVE IT how snowboarders have to dramatize everything. Just kidding, actually, semi-joking because take a look at the first trailer.
The first trailer is for The Art Of Flight and I'm not going to go into the details about riders and sponsors etc. (just check out the site for that, obvi). The second one is Burton's Standing Sideways which, in my opinion, has a more chillaxed vibe to it and yeah, the trailer actually made me feel like this dark, rainy Toronto Sunday won't be so bad after all.
TO DO: Get my hands on these films.

What I like about snowboarding films is the beauty of the nature (and the fooling around) BUT mainly the cool camera angles and the beautiful scenery... And yeah, the talent is okay, I suppose.
Just on a side note, I ended up bumping into these two trailers due to unexpected circumstances and oh maaan did they bring good AND bad memories. Of course I managed to miss both film premieres this week (oh well)... But I strongly feel like it is time to get back into the whole snowboarding scene although my board is literally 6280.619 kilometers away from me. FML.
BUT it is the perfect time to have breakfast (thank you megaphone man who woke me up at 9 am).

IMITATION OF LIFE (1934)

I ended up watching this beautiful film in my class. I didn't think I would ever be able to properly enjoy black and white films but little by little I'm starting to understand their beauty.
This particular film was good but, what especially caught my eye was Claudette Colbert's amazing beauty, good acting and gorgeous costumes. That sentence pretty much says all I wanted to say so maybe I don't need to continue with my blabberings...
But seriously, just take look at the costume design. It's incredibly elegant and the way Colbert carries all those dresses is amazing.
I realize the point of the whole film is a bit different but I was not able to pay as much attention to anything else but the costumes. If you find this kind of style elegant and beautiful then I am totally recommending this film because, yeah, it won't disappoint in that area.
I'm too tired to find the costume designer right now and I'm sorry for the picture quality but one can only do so much with youtube quality videos, right? RIGHT?
Do take a look at the film though because it is a story that has it's moments.
