Daniel Lanois - Fire

And sometimes a song that used to be painful to hear to turns out to be the song you listen to when the person you love is far away and you need something to ease the missing.

Corinne Bailey Rae is gorgeous and so is my lover.

She is absolutely fabulous, capturing, fascinating and so gorgeous. Her beautiful voice singing those lyrics makes me smile like a fool. I don't think much needs to be said here because her performance speaks for itself.

I will leave you to enjoy this beauty and continue sinking deeper into this developing, beautiful, mellow feeling he gives me.

OLD POST // LEON MARK

How about an old editorial then?
By the way, I am totally over A. Dunstan! Ha.

***
I really liked this editorial shot by Leon Mark for Metal Magazine.
Metal Magazine is a mix of fashion and art. Actually, while hanging out at their site I realized it has a quite a lot; books, fashion, films, music etc. So, do take some time to check it out since it looks quite nice! For a background information I can tell that Metal was first published in 2006, it release five issues per year and the magazine is made in Scandinavia, London, Paris, Barcelona and New York.

The photographer, Leon Mark, is a fashion, art and portrait photographer with a nice, soft style. I believe he is based in LDN at the moment and has shot for magazines like Dazed&Confused (another one worth checking out), Vice and The End, to mention a few.

After looking at his work, personally I like the brightness and softness of his pictures and the mood in general. This specific editorial... Well, the model's eyes were just gorgeous and had a nice, deep feeling in them. That is just one of the reasons I decided to put it here.

Pink Floyd - Careful with that Axe Eugene

Hey Isabell. I can't say the song perfectly suited the situation, but I've always liked this a lot. I was also just listening to this song when we met at the Vaasa airport.

Duke Ellington - It don't mean a thing (if you ain't got that swing)

My god! The sound of that trombone at 1:05! Have you ever heard anything like that? And the swing indeed... This makes me want to get my lovely Isa in my arms and dance again.

OLD POST // AZUREUS RISING

AAA! This has only gotten MORE AWESOME as the time has gone by. EPIC WIN.
Do yourself a favour and watch this in HD, full screen, on high volume!
***
Okay, so for me this short film has some major mind-blow-abilities. I don't even know where to start, although all YOU need to do is watch it!
Azureus Rising is a proof of concept for a science fiction action adventure feature film saga and next gen video game. It's pretty epic. Personally, this short reminded me of my dream. I like the main character with his round eyes that evoke sympathy (in a way) and I like how he gets out of every tough situation. This is a hard one to describe so just take a look.
One more thing I feel like mentioning: to me it looks like this short got its inspiration (at least partly) from some video games and the sword kind of reminded me of the light saber, etc. NEVERTHELESS, this looks very, very good. NSNV approves.
At the moment Azureus is in development to be a film. But what I'm ever more excited about is that it's in development to be a AAA video game! That's going to be something worth purchasing.

WHY AM I ALWAYS SO LATE?
On the other hand when a commercial is this smoooooth it doesn't matter. So check it out. THIS is a good advertisement for a damn good phone, in my opinion. In general, Samsung is super-convincing with their products so yeah, respect.

Oh, just for the record, the phone actually IS that smooth to use.

THE ART OF FLIGHT & STANDING SIDEWAYS

I LOVE IT how snowboarders have to dramatize everything. Just kidding, actually, semi-joking because take a look at the first trailer.
The first trailer is for The Art Of Flight and I'm not going to go into the details about riders and sponsors etc. (just check out the site for that, obvi). The second one is Burton's Standing Sideways which, in my opinion, has a more chillaxed vibe to it and yeah, the trailer actually made me feel like this dark, rainy Toronto Sunday won't be so bad after all.
TO DO: Get my hands on these films.

What I like about snowboarding films is the beauty of the nature (and the fooling around) BUT mainly the cool camera angles and the beautiful scenery... And yeah, the talent is okay, I suppose.
Just on a side note, I ended up bumping into these two trailers due to unexpected circumstances and oh maaan did they bring good AND bad memories. Of course I managed to miss both film premieres this week (oh well)... But I strongly feel like it is time to get back into the whole snowboarding scene although my board is literally 6280.619 kilometers away from me. FML.
BUT it is the perfect time to have breakfast (thank you megaphone man who woke me up at 9 am).

So, a day late, but who caaares!
SHAUN WON! SCOTTY WAS THIRD! PEETU GOT SILVER!
From all the competing riders the podium could not have looked better! It was sick! Awesome! Nerve-wracking to watch but still AMAZING! Everything snowboarding has always meant to me... KIDDING! I don't even know what to say or where to start so everyone who saw the halfpipe finals probably gets me, hopefully.
CONGRATULATIONS and good job with not letting anyone down!

IMITATION OF LIFE (1934)

I ended up watching this beautiful film in my class. I didn't think I would ever be able to properly enjoy black and white films but little by little I'm starting to understand their beauty.
This particular film was good but, what especially caught my eye was Claudette Colbert's amazing beauty, good acting and gorgeous costumes. That sentence pretty much says all I wanted to say so maybe I don't need to continue with my blabberings...
But seriously, just take look at the costume design. It's incredibly elegant and the way Colbert carries all those dresses is amazing.
I realize the point of the whole film is a bit different but I was not able to pay as much attention to anything else but the costumes. If you find this kind of style elegant and beautiful then I am totally recommending this film because, yeah, it won't disappoint in that area.
I'm too tired to find the costume designer right now and I'm sorry for the picture quality but one can only do so much with youtube quality videos, right? RIGHT?
Do take a look at the film though because it is a story that has it's moments.

YOU ARE THE BEAUTIFUL ONE.

I know I'm the one who listens to extremely cliché, mainstream music BUT I cannot help that I happen to enjoy Beyoncé.
So, here is her performing The Beautiful Ones and Sex On Fire at this year's (2011) Glastonbury. I love those songs in their original form but I also love what she did to them. I know some people think she is a bit over-the-top and too much but I love the energy and strength she puts into her performance... So you will simply have to bare through this with me. Enjoy.

UNAUTHORIZED: THE HARVEY WEINSTEIN PROJECT

Here is an interesting documentary-like film of one of the biggest names in the whole Hollywood film industry: Harvey Weinstein. This was an interesting film. It showed how Weinstein pretty much changed the industry, what he added to it and how he got to where he is at the moment.

You know how you can pretty much expect the film to be a good one when you see that The Harvey Weinstein company produced it... But with this documentary I just have more respect for this person. It's always admirable when one achieves all the things they were going for so yeah... I do love my school because after the film screening there was a discussion board with the director and other interesting people. So, I would say that do give it a watch if you're interested in the industry somehow, heh.
(And also forgive me for my tired writing but I am tired at the moment. Lol)

Isa

Sleep is mainstream. I went into the underground. Without any need of making sense I opened an empty document and smashed my keyboard in such a way that clusters of letters - let's call them words -  would appear and with quite some interest I watched as the lines grew and grew. At first it took me some effort to make the words come through but then I saw they quoted words that I don't recall being said and some I did hear at some point and have been echoing in my head ever since. They told stories of life, death, the world, great cities, lonely wastelands, friends, lovers, and while trying to keep up with the constant stream of characters I read endless tales, one more beautiful than the other. After what  seemed hours I deciphered my own name, which first kind of surprised me but since this stream felt like it was going for completion, the tale of Everything Everywhere Anytime, I accepted that sooner or later I had to see that name appear. I read and laughed, I cried and continued reading, it didn't stop, I got tired, tied and tangled into those words but I couldn't stop until I had seen your name, written down there and it stood out compared to any other name or word down there, beautiful as it is. I managed to continue smashing the keys until I heard the screen echo the most beautiful voice I know, whispering, moaning "I want you" and I fell out of every dimension I thought I was in, and then with the sound of a heartbeat Everything Everywhere Anytime became one single dot right in front of me and I looked at the dot and the dot looked back.

.

Since time hadn't started at that point yet I have trouble describing for how long I stared but then the next heartbeat came and my fingers slowly but steadily started tapping a rhythm accompanied by the blood being pumped through the body. I had trouble deciding if I had really seen the universe being created again (does it really do that every heartbeat??) or if I had gone completely insane and lost all connection with reality but then I saw your name again and it made sense. It made sense. It made sense in that way things make perfect sense without you'd ever be able to put it into words. My fingers started slowing down but I didn't mind because I was able to take the beautiful chapters about you and me at a more comfortable pace and again I cried and I laughed, I smiled, I got overwhelmed at times by how beautiful it was, but the fingers kept slowing down. I tried to push it but then realized that the story wouldn't be finished if I didn't play it myself. I went back to bed and with the last energy I had for the day I told you 'Isa, I love you'.

The Exit - Back to the Rebels

Okay, just got back from going through time (see earlier post) and while checking out some stuff and giving some good advice to myself in 2004 I ran into me when I was about to buy Home for an Island by the Exit. I had never heard of the band but the album title seemed kind of interesting and I bought it. Since that day I have been bitten by the need of knowing every band I come across because this random buy turned out to be one of the albums of my puberty. The Exit wasn't the greatest band of the world but except for the last two songs every single track is just... I don't even know.  Just listen and maybe watch, there's a cool video for this one.

Experimenting.

Never thought I'd ever blog about school assignments. Anyway, our prof told us to mess around on Logic Pro (that's a type of audio software) and since I don't perfectly know my way around it yet I started making something a bit dubby. Will have to do a lot of work but it's fun playing around with the software and the new hardware I bought (keyboard, audio interface, bad-ass headphones). Try to find a good set of speakers and get lost like I did making this.
Oh yeah, when I make music I post it under the name KOverm or KOvermStatic. I will not explain that name, only that I added the Static one day when I forgot the log-in name for the KOverm accounts I made. That problem is solved though.
I used some samples from a couple of films and documentaries, like I often do, but as always they are totally uncleared so please don't sue me. I make a point of never making money out of my own music anyway, it's just for fun.
By the way, if you would want to do anything with this track feel free to do whatever you want with this as long as you let me know because in the end I like to know what happens with the tracks. Out of pure curiosity to be honest. Just ask and I'll send you a proper quality version.

Anyway, have a good one.

Spot the sample: A Tribe Called Quest- Can I Kick It

Damn I'll always love this song. Epic sampling right here, I admit it's a very easy one (right?) but still.
This song has been used in a movie called The Wackness, I like it a lot.
Now let's imagine I wrote a big big text full of interesting opinions and points and stuff that makes me look smart. It would be about 420 lines and after reading it you would still not fully realize how awesome this mysterious K is. Of course you understand I am far too busy to actually post this text here myself since I have other mindblowingly amazing stuff to do like inventing words as mindblowingly and checking out what's the best spot in my appartment to place a Grow-Your-Own-Magic-Shrooms set.

I'm kidding.

Storm Thorgerson art

Here's some art by Storm Thorgerson, a British graphic designer and probably a lot of other stuff but I managed to rape my sleeping rhythm good enough this weekend to be unable to go deeper into it. If you like his stuff, I personally think he's really worth checking out because of his artwork for bands like Alan Parsons Project, Peter Gabriel, Led Zeppelin, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd (Pink Floyd!!!!)... I guess my dad was a big fan of his work since today I found out I inherited about 40 vinyl records with his artwork on the sleeve and they all look amazing. While browsing through and drooling on them I noticed his name returned a couple of times so I googled the guy and liked what I saw.

I like vinyl a lot. I can't really put my finger on why, I'd like to be able to say I started my collection before it became popular again but that sounds hipster-ish and I don't want to be a fucking hipster. To be perfectly honest I found my dad's old vinyl collection a couple of years ago and that was both the day I decided that my dad actually was a pretty cool guy at some point. Somewhere in the 70's but still.
There's also this great discussion about 'the sound of vinyl' that I don't really feel like going into today (let's blame my laziness on a mix of tiredness and cheap whiskey with the amazing name 'Old Smuggler' - came with a free whiskey glass - the combination makes sound a bit arrogant while the only thing it actually does is making me not care that mu

Blah, I'm not making sense. Let me just close the parentheses because I seem to have a slight OCD with opening/closing those fuckers:
)
And show you the artwork before I forget. Damn I fail at blogging properly.
